Samsung's chosen to dissect the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/samsung-galaxy-note-review/">Galaxy Note</a> for all to see -- and on its official blog, no less. Strangely, the pictures show the global Galaxy Note with its physical home button but the specs match those of the Galaxy Note <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/LTE/">LTE</a> that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/atandt-galaxy-note-with-lte-hands-on-at-ces-2012-video/">we played with at CES</a> and which is supposed to launch on AT&T <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/telus-announces-samsung-galaxy-note-launch-lte-in-q1/">and Telus</a> <em>real soon now</em>. There are no major surprises here -- Samsung outlines some of the over 1000 components within, including the glorious 5.3-inch 1280x800-pixel <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HDSuperAMOLED/">HD Super AMOLED</a> display, the unspecified 1.5GHz dual-core processor (likely a Qualcomm <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SnapdragonS3/">Snapdragon S3</a>), the eight megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash plus other bits and pieces like sensors and radios. What's particularly interesting is that Samsung confirms <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NFC/">NFC</a> support (with the antenna inside the battery cover) and the use of a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Wacom/">Wacom</a> digitizer for the S Pen. Turning the camera on its side, you try and get a perfect portrait shot, but find the vagaries of evolution mean your fingers won't stretch to the buttons anymore. If you've ever experienced such horrors, Pentax has the solution with its new Optio VS20 digital compact camera. The 16-megapixel camera packs an accelerometer (like Samsung's QF20) which will flip your image to the correct orientation and a second shutter release and zoom lever on the topmost side of the body for easier snapping. The company also thoughtfully included a second tripod mount, so there's no futzing with your stand required. Less exceptional features include a 3-inch LCD, automatic picture modes including fish-eye that'll appeal to the young skaters and hipsters you see littering the streets. It'll capture 1280 x 720 movies with its independent video button (also recording in fish-eye) and variable aspect ratio. It's arriving next month for $250, so if you want to become a superstar of the board, you'd better get practicing your <em>Ollies</em>.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/pentax-optio-vs20/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pentax Optio VS20: hold it any way you want, as long as you love it</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/pentax-optio-vs20/">Pentax Optio VS20: hold it any way you want, as long as you love it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 07:40:00 EDT. As <em>SlashGear</em>'s Chris Davies noticed, Nokia received about $250 million from Redmond during the fourth quarter of 2011, as part of the companies' "broad strategic agreement." Under the agreement, the manufacturer receives so-called "platform support payments" from Microsoft -- which, in turn, receives software licensing payments from Nokia. The $250 million Microsoft doled out last quarter is the first of these transactions. As forecast <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/04/nokia-chairman-jorma-ollila-to-step-down-next-year-complete-exo/">last year</a>, non-executive chairman Jorma Ollola joined Nokia in 1985 and has been on the board through Nokia's explosive growth into the world's biggest handset manufacturer -- and its more recent <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/08/nokia-ceo-stephen-elop-rallies-troops-in-brutally-honest-burnin/">troubles</a>. He will leave the board alongside more recent members Bengt Holmström and Per Karlsson, while existing board memeber Risto Siilasmaa is currently pegged to take the helm once the new board of directors is formed. The Finnish manufacturer finished 2011 with a little more than €10 billion in net sales -- 11 percent higher than Q3, but 21 percent lower than 2010, when Nokia raked in about €12.7 billion. Operating profit, meanwhile, rose by 90 percent over Q3, but is still down on the year by a whopping 56 percent. To date, the company has sold more than one million <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Lumia/">Lumia</a> handsets, but Espoo acknowledges that there's still a lot of work to do in 2012. In fact, Nokia expects to break even during the first quarter of this year, due in part to lower than expected seasonal sales and to what it calls "competitive industry dynamics." A couple of newly published patents out of Redmond have made their way to the web: one for securely pairing wireless devices and one for 3D rangefinder camera technology. The pairing tech works via a direct connection between devices using Bluetooth or WiFi and an automated, two-step authentication process. First, a request is sent by an initiating handset and is authenticated by its target using an address book of recognized devices. Next, the two devices exchange encrypted security keys to cement their digital friendship, leaving you free to exchange your favorite episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 or latest LOLcat pictures with the greatest of ease.<br /><br />Microsoft's other patent of interest is for "a 3D camera for determining distances to regions in a scene." That's not a new concept by any means, but this new bit of IP integrates all the functions of such an imager on a single chip. Essentially, it claims an image sensor, a light source to illuminate the scene being shot and a controller to gate the pixels on the sensor on and off and correct for inaccuracies caused by other light sources. It works by projecting the light source and determining the distance to various points based upon the time it takes for the light to bounce off the target and reach the camera sensor. Cancel them now, and do everything you can to sneak into New York's Museum of Natural History. Because tonight, the museum's planetarium will play host to a 200-person space game, courtesy of Brooklyn's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/03/babycastles-brings-its-indie-arcade-action-to-the-engadget-show/">Babycastles arcade</a>. It's all part of the museum's "Cosmic Cocktails and Space Arcade" evening -- an event that seems tailor made for anyone interested in cosmology, humans, and/or hallucinogens. The showcase of the soiree is the Space Cruiser game, which promises to turn the ceiling of the Rose Center for Earth and Space into a "living, breathing, space ship where participants navigate around a beautiful fictitious universe." With the Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt assuming the tripartite role of ship captain-navigator-narrator, the game apparently begins with the birth of the universe, before transporting visitors across new galaxies and through time-bending wormholes. The ship launches at 6:30 PM tonight, but unfortunately, tickets are already sold out. Cupertino's iOS comprised about 58 percent of the global slate market during Q4 2011 -- well ahead of Android's record high 39 percent share, but down from the 68 percent it commanded during the final quarter of 2010. Android, in fact, has seen quite a jump over the past year, with total shipments reaching 10.5 million units during the last quarter, up from just 3.1 million last year (Apple, by comparison, shipped 15.4 million iPads during Q4, versus the 7.3 million it shipped last year). On a global level, the tablet market continues to blossom, with total shipments reaching an all-time high of 26.8 million units last quarter, representing a whopping 150 percent increase over last year. Read the full report at the source link below, or head past the break for a more succinct press release. </div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/strategy-analytics-apple-still-owns-tablet-market-but-android/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Strategy Analytics: Apple still owns tablet market, but Android narrows the gap</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/strategy-analytics-apple-still-owns-tablet-market-but-android/">Strategy Analytics: Apple still owns tablet market, but Android narrows the gap</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 03:45:00 EDT. Why the Datamotion Systems PowerPad 16 ES-IP-PP16 USB Charging Hub, of course! Sure, there's no practical household application for the PP16, even in the most gadget-obsessed of families, but it'd be more than welcome in an enterprise environment or even an airport (<em>especially</em> an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/22/deltas-jfk-terminal-now-home-to-200-ipads-a-few-more-enticing/">airport</a>). And we do need to address the elephant in the room -- that rather beastly fan-sporting housing -- but as Datamotion points out, the thing can always live under a counter and out of view. The company posted profits of ¥40.9 billion (about $631.6 million) for the October - December period, representing a 61 percent quarterly drop. That's especially disappointing, considering that this period has traditionally been strong for Nintendo, which had previously forecast an operating profit of ¥1 billion (around $12.9 million). Those forecasts have since changed, however, with the manufacturer now predicting a ¥45 billion ($580 million) operating loss for the full year, ending March 31st. Nintendo blames the poor showing to sagging <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/3DS/">3DS</a> sales, which have forced it to slash prices. Developed in an effort to break the stereotype that small cars must be boring, the car is perfectly sized with features and functionality to give riders the feel of race cars. The concept will be powered by hydrogen and transmits pure sensations of a racing even at low speeds. Replacing conventional sliding doors with sliding roof is another unique feature of the vehicle. Despite that its shape is strongly inspired by the racing cars 30, like the auto union type C, and D, Audi 2050 Concept tries to capture the pure soul of those cars and turns it into a car that could be a classic in the distant future. </p><br /> <p>Cheers, <em><strong>Victor Uribe</strong></em>! </p><br /> <p><img alt='audi 2050 concept1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/audi-2050-concept1_rstLB_3868.jpg'/><img alt='audi 2050 concept3' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/audi-2050-concept3_jMpPE_3868.jpg'/><img alt='audi 2050 concept4' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/audi-2050-concept4_pDZ3U_3868.jpg'/><img alt='audi 2050 concept5' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/audi-2050-concept5_pVUXT_3868.jpg'/><img alt='audi 2050 concept6' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/audi-2050-concept6_SFMAI_3868.jpg'/><img alt='audi 2050 concept7' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/audi-2050-concept7_hvlF1_3868.jpg'/><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/audi-2050-concept-is-classic-of-the-future/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/audi-2050-concept-i...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-89135605991642351142010-06-10T13:09:00.007-07:002010-06-10T13:09:23.727-07:00Fire Born Chopper is one of the most outrageous custom built<br /> Amazing creations attract, and here is one that you couldn’t help but appreciate. However, designer Felipe Palermo envisions a Mercedes Benz concept that fits well in 2050. Inspired by old Silver Arrows, Slr Mclaren, and the 1954 Gull-wing, Mercedes-Benz Arrow concept is based on the idea that people at that time won’t use cars but rail systems. Therefore, the concept is especially designed as recreational vehicle for fun on the weekends. The concept has been designed with the aim to draw comparison with other leisure vehicles such as motorcycles, jet skis, and personalized aircraft. The layout for Mercedes-Benz Arrow concept is done by TANDEM, the vehicle works with MAGLEV system that helps the vehicle to take on the sharp curves. The vehicle will have tires that will never wear out because they can simply be re-injected with rubber.<br/><br /></p><br /> <p><img alt='mercedes benz arrow 1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/mercedes-benz-arrow-1_pkJXN_3868.jpg'/><img alt='mercedes benz arrow 2' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/mercedes-benz-arrow-2_t1zRJ_3868.jpg'/><img alt='mercedes benz arrow 3' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/mercedes-benz-arrow-3_g5CaS_3868.jpg'/><img alt='mercedes benz arrow 4' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/mercedes-benz-arrow-4_ELRXh_3868.jpg'/><img alt='mercedes benz arrow 5' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/mercedes-benz-arrow-5_Gq5ag_3868.jpg'/></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/06/09/mercedes-benz-points-to-2050/ '>Yankodesign</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/mercedes-benz-arrow-concept-a-recreational-supercar-for-2050/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/mercedes-benz-arrow...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-50287771709807011062010-06-10T13:09:00.003-07:002010-06-10T13:09:21.767-07:00Terrestrial Shrub Rover is a harmless shrub on the wheels<br /> Ingenuity knows no bounds and here is an instance that shows humans have a never die urge to explore. See this object and you will surely take it for a moving shrub but it’s a solar electric powered car, mind you. As per its looks, the vehicle is named as the Terrestrial Shrub Rover and is disguised as a well-manicured shrub. Designed and built by Jason Shull, the Shrub Rover is powered by plug-in solar electricity and is underpinned by a compact go-kart frame with a fiberglass dome and glued on faux foliage. And to give the driver view of the outside road, the amazing vehicle features three outward facing LCD cameras (or about 300 of these mini-cams) to assist and give the occupant a lot more fun than a normal car. Hailed as 2010 MotoCzysz E1pc, the bike is not merely another technically impressive electric motorcycle, but the most advanced two-wheeler ever made. Integrated by Michael Czysz while using MotoGP-level thinking, MotoCzysz E1pc features the most electric drive technology yet seen with engineering solutions. </p><br /> <p/><br /> <p>The bike is to take part in the Isle of Man’s TT Zero electric motorcycle race – the toughest one in the world and has already clocked a 94.6 MPH lap, tantalizingly close to the 100 MPH goal. The electric bike features ten 19.5 pound lithium polymer battery packs, incredibly diminutive tail section and the huge swingarm. That means the bike packs 10 times the battery capacity of a Toyota Prius and 2.5 times the torque of a Ducati 1198. </p><br /> <p>The other features this most advanced electric bike include ten lithium polymer batteries without wires for easy swaps, an oil-cooled electric motor especially developed from the ground up to win races and a top speed 140 MPH so far. E1pc Superbike has a 100hp electric motor with a torque density of 250+ lb ft. The MotoCzysz motor can deliver a continuous 75kW (100hp) and is 93% efficient under continuous heavy load (140C).</p><br /> <p><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-1_AdUZ3_3868.jpg'/><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 2' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-2_bFNC5_3868.jpg'/><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 3' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-3_VEB7S_3868.jpg'/><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 7' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-7_qNToS_3868.jpg'/><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 4' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-4_deJXV_3868.jpg'/><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 5' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-5_TVi3f_3868.jpg'/><img alt='2010 motoczysz e1pc 6' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/10/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-6_My2Tt_3868.jpg'/></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2010-06/inside-story-motoczysz-e1pc-worlds-most-advanced-electric-motorcycle '>Popsci</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/2010-motoczysz-e1pc-the-most-advanced-electric-motorcycle-ever-made/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/2010-motoczysz-e1pc...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-12303021846578214032010-06-03T07:20:00.019-07:002010-06-03T07:20:56.717-07:00Body work powered cars are the future of electric, hybrid cars<br /> As Swedish carmaker Volvo to team up with Imperial College London on a 3.4 million euro project, possibilities for the concerns over the impracticality of electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles may soon come to an end. The duo to work together to develop a prototype material that stores and discharges electrical energy, allowing parts of a car’s bodywork to double up as its battery. The project will help quash the very thought of being stranded at a location with dead battery and no recharge station for miles which is a major affliction people eschew buying an EV or HEV. </p><br /> <p>The project will work on an idea to store energy in different parts of the electric or hybrid car and then use this energy to power anything from the brake lights to the satnav. The technology will feature small and fewer batteries being used that could power the vehicle for a longer period of time without the need to recharge. Well, if this thing comes out to be true, it will not only be a new paradigm in energy conservation but will reduce the charging stations considerably. </p><br /> <p>The other possible +ve outcomes of this energy storage technology include: it would lead to lighter vehicles on the road, which obviously translates to less road wear-and-tear per car in the future. With all the research work going on, it doesn’t seem improbable to think of a car drawing power from its roof, bonnet etc or mobile phone as thin as credit card or laptop that can draw energy from its casing. </p><br /> <p><object height='405' width='605'><br/><br /><param value='http://www.youtube.com/v/jZ7A51h6cwU&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1' name='movie'/><br /><param value='true' name='allowFullScreen'/><br /><param value='always' name='allowscriptaccess'/><embed height='405' width='605' allowfullscreen='true' allowscriptaccess='always' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' src='http://www.youtube.com/v/jZ7A51h6cwU&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1'/></object></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://technabob.com/blog/2010/06/02/electric-cars-with-battery-body/ '>Technabob</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/body-work-powered-cars-are-the-future-of-electric-hybrid-cars/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/body-work-powered-c...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-14283613470669839442010-06-03T07:20:00.017-07:002010-06-03T07:20:55.843-07:00Nino Farina sports car based on Toyota Celica GT-S is street legal<br /> Featured above is limited edition Nino Farina sports car that will make your stomach muscles tighten when you start it. The all electric car is of the same size as a real car and weighs 300kgs. And on the top of that it actually runs. Made while meticulously putting 10,280 discarded cigarette packets one after the other, it took eight months to give this vehicle present shape. The team was helped by more than 2500 students to collect the discarded cigarette packets. The eco friendly car appeared in the Xi’an Electrical and Information Institute and attracted thousands of students. </p><br /> <p/><br /> <p><img alt='cigarette sports car_1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/cigarette-sports-car_1_ijU1j_69.jpg'/><img alt='cigarette sports car_2' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/cigarette-sports-car_2_qIxlu_69.jpg'/><img alt='cigarette sports car_3' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/cigarette-sports-car_3_iO2Ci_69.jpg'/><img alt='cigarette sports car_4' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/cigarette-sports-car_4_9bkzX_69.jpg'/><img alt='cigarette sports car_5' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/cigarette-sports-car_5_KctUJ_69.jpg'/><img alt='cigarette sports car_6' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/cigarette-sports-car_6_wIqCY_69.jpg'/></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://www.ecofriend.org/entry/undergrads-create-electric-sports-car-from-discarded-cigarette-cases/'>Ecofriend</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/a-functional-electric-sports-car-created-out-of-10280-cigarette-packets/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/a-functional-electr...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-28710262195276392122010-06-03T07:20:00.013-07:002010-06-03T07:20:53.812-07:00Wind powered car moves faster than the wind<br /> Built by Rick Cavallaro and his friend, this wind-powered vehicle outruns the wind. In a test carried out last week, the car hit a top speed 2.86 times faster than the wind. Wind powered car with a 17-foot-tall propeller is basically an unusual contraption with an aerodynamic foam chassis attached to a wind turbine. Using wind as an external power source, the car’s propeller produces enough thrust to push the car’s wheels beyond the speed of the wind. The team took almost a year in designing a transmission system that could transfer power from the wheels to the propeller. And to ensure there is no paucity of funds in the mission, Google and Joby Energy provided the necessary funding to build the vehicle with San Jose State University aerodynamics department.</p><br /> <p/><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2010-06/wind-powered-car-looks-odd-answers-tricky-physics-question '>Popsci</a> / <a href=' http://www.fasterthanthewind.org/2010/05/we-done-good.html '>Fasterthanthewind</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/wind-powered-car-moves-faster-than-the-wind/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/wind-powered-car-mo...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-32125564800491131452010-06-03T07:20:00.011-07:002010-06-03T07:20:52.958-07:00Jeff Koon’s BMW Art Car unveiled at Center Popidou<br /> After the initial teaser, Jeff Koon’s BMW Art Car is finally unveiled this week at the Centre Popidou in Paris. For the making of this 17th BMW Art Car since the program’s creation in 1977, Koon studied explosions, race cars, and speed in building his inspiration for the car. The car was placed in the Center Pompidou – the same place where Roy Lichtenstein back in 1977 first presented and signed his Art Car and as per BMW it is to race where the first rolling pieces of art by legendary artists raced – at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 12-13, 2010.</p><br /> <p> </p><br /> <p>Koon’s BMW M3 GT2 art car with his long, wind-swept, brightly colored brush strokes are meant to appeal to our most basic notions of “power, motion and bursting energy”. Its silver interior along with the powerful exterior design, and dynamic appearance will surely force people to think. The exterior design was printed on vinyl that was further wrapped around the car. On the other, two layers of clear-coat were applied to the wrap, which can also be seen on the car’s spare parts. </p><br /> <p>BMW art car was produced under Koons’ direct guidance and supervision and in assistance with the BMW engineers and designers at Schmid Design, Bavaria. The car has been made using light material without interfering with the race car’s aerodynamics and weight. CAD designs were translated from 3D into 2D for printing hundreds of lines of Koons’ design onto the car. The car is open for the public view free of charge in the Forum of the Center Pompidou.</p><br /> <p><img alt='jeff koons bmw art car 1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-1_iS8RC_3868.jpg'/><img alt='jeff koons bmw art car 3' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-3_HWPvM_3868.jpg'/><img alt='jeff koons bmw art car 4' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-4_P2Tby_3868.jpg'/><img alt='jeff koons bmw art car 5' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-5_GdSuh_3868.jpg'/><img alt='jeff koons bmw art car 6' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-6_I7ABz_3868.jpg'/><img alt='jeff koons bmw art car 7' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-7_szYZs_3868.jpg'/></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://www.worldcarfans.com/110060226627/jeff-koons-bmw-art-car-officially-unveiled-video'>Worldcarfans</a> / <a href='http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/06/jeff-koons-art-car-doesnt-suck/'>Wired</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/jeff-koon-s-bmw-art-car-unveiled-at-center-popidou/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/jeff-koon-s-bmw-art...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-13088557649931544452010-06-03T07:20:00.009-07:002010-06-03T07:20:51.908-07:00Voglreiter Auto Residence: Car-shaped house which is sustainable but not mobile<br /> For all the die hard fans who live and breathe autos this unusual car house is the ultimate thing that will bring them closer to their auto obsession. This incredible car house on the border of a nature preserve in Gnigl near Salzburg, Austria is named Auto Residence and is German designer Markus Voglreiter imagination. From the appearance it may look like a house on the wheels to many eyes, but it isn’t mobile one as the wheels are just for show. The car shaped house is big enough to accommodate two generations of families in two separate portions of the vehicle and features sustainable and energy-saving technology that includes a “3 liter” energy efficient heating and insulation technique that optimizes all current building technologies, drastically reducing energy consumption. Apart from these, Auto Residence has all the comforts that come with a common looking residence. </p><br /> <p/><br /> <p><img alt='voglreiter auto residence 1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/voglreiter-auto-residence-1_DfwPG_3868.jpg'/><img alt='voglreiter auto residence 2' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/voglreiter-auto-residence-2_vowyp_3868.jpg'/><img alt='voglreiter auto residence 3' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/voglreiter-auto-residence-3_9eEKg_3868.jpg'/><img alt='voglreiter auto residence 4' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/voglreiter-auto-residence-4_t15jc_3868.jpg'/><img alt='voglreiter auto residence 5' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/voglreiter-auto-residence-5_vjPnV_3868.jpg'/><img alt='voglreiter auto residence 6' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/voglreiter-auto-residence-6_esIhR_3868.jpg'/></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://dvice.com/archives/2010/06/goofy-car-shape.php '>Device</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/voglreiter-auto-residence-car-shaped-house-which-is-sustainable-but-not-mobile/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/voglreiter-auto-res...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017638407981172419.post-22139035959338110002010-06-03T07:20:00.007-07:002010-06-03T07:20:51.020-07:00Rocket Car: A Coke and Mentos powered car<br /> Looking for the alternative sources of fuel is a herculean task that needs perspicuity and above all a lot of patience. And the chaps from the Maine have shown it in plenty. Well, Coca-Cola and Mentos breath mints when mixed together, Coke will bubble and shoot up in the air is nothing new to all of us. However, the Main guys claim that they’ve harnessed that power to run the Rocket car. The vehicle is created by Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz of Buckfield features a utility trailer at the rear and a modified bike at the front. And the power from the chemical reaction has been harnessed, and very well harnessed, to roll the Rocket Car out of a hangar to a distance mark of 221 feet.</p><br /> <p/><br /> <p>The Rocket car has 108 two-liter bottles of Coke Zero and 648 Mentos tablets and uses a piston mechanism wherein a six foot long rod sits inside a six-foot long tube attached to each bottle of Coke Zero. When the mentos tablets drop into the soda, the pressure press the road to come out of the tube and while 108 rods pushing at the same time generates a lot of power. The power further push against the a wall braced with 3,600 pounds of cement blocks and in this way the force is directed to roll the three wheeled Coke Zero & Mentos Rocket Car forward. </p><br /> <p><img alt='mentos_monster_1' src='http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/06/03/mentos_monster_1_nxref_3868.jpg'/> </p><br /> <p><object height='405' width='605'><br/><br /><param value='http://www.youtube.com/v/i-hXcRtbj1Y&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1' name='movie'/><br /><param value='true' name='allowFullScreen'/><br /><param value='always' name='allowscriptaccess'/><embed height='405' width='605' allowfullscreen='true' allowscriptaccess='always' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' src='http://www.youtube.com/v/i-hXcRtbj1Y&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1'/></object></p><br /> <p>Via: <a href='http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2010/06/01/team-builds-mentos-powered-car/ '>Foxnews</a> / <a href='http://www.nzherald.co.nz/motoring/news/article.cfm?c_id=9&objectid=10649181'>Nzherald</a><br /></p><br/><br/><center><div style='width:100%;border:none;border-top:1px solid black;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-align:left;padding:3px;'><br /> <table style='font-size:9px;' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0'><tr><td valign='middle'>Published by </td><td><br /> <a href='http://www.xfruits.com'><img title='Published by xFruits' alt='Published by xFruits' border='0' src='http://www.xfruits.com/_theme/images/xfruits_logo_small.jpg'/></a></td></tr><br /> </table>Original source : <a style='font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.automotto.org/entry/rocket-car-a-coke-and-mentos-powered-car/'>http://www.automotto.org/entry/rocket-car-a-coke-a...</a></div></center><br /> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08359269088103919755noreply@blogger.com0
