Samsung dissects Galaxy Note, confirms NFC support for LTE version

Teardown fans rejoice! Samsung's chosen to dissect the Galaxy Note for all to see -- and on its official blog, no less. Strangely, the pictures show the global Galaxy Note with its physical home button but the specs match those of the Galaxy Note LTE that we played with at CES and which is supposed to launch on AT&T and Telus real soon now. There are no major surprises here -- Samsung outlines some of the over 1000 components within, including the glorious 5.3-inch 1280x800-pixel HD Super AMOLED display, the unspecified 1.5GHz dual-core processor (likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3), the eight megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash plus other bits and pieces like sensors and radios. What's particularly interesting is that Samsung confirms NFC support (with the antenna inside the battery cover) and the use of a Wacom digitizer for the S Pen. Want more? Standing on the Hoover Dam, you're trying to encapsulate the majesty of the engineering feat before you. Turning the camera on its side, you try and get a perfect portrait shot, but find the vagaries of evolution mean your fingers won't stretch to the buttons anymore. If you've ever experienced such horrors, Pentax has the solution with its new Optio VS20 digital compact camera. The 16-megapixel camera packs an accelerometer (like Samsung's QF20) which will flip your image to the correct orientation and a second shutter release and zoom lever on the topmost side of the body for easier snapping. The company also thoughtfully included a second tripod mount, so there's no futzing with your stand required. Less exceptional features include a 3-inch LCD, automatic picture modes including fish-eye that'll appeal to the young skaters and hipsters you see littering the streets. It'll capture 1280 x 720 movies with its independent video button (also recording in fish-eye) and variable aspect ratio. It's arriving next month for $250, so if you want to become a superstar of the board, you'd better get practicing your Ollies.

Microsoft paid Nokia $250 million to adopt Windows Phone, Q4 earnings report reveals

Microsoft and Nokia have historically been pretty tight-lipped about the value of their Windows Phone partnership, but the cat leapt out of the bag this morning, courtesy of Espoo's Q4 2011 earnings report. As SlashGear's Chris Davies noticed, Nokia received about $250 million from Redmond during the fourth quarter of 2011, as part of the companies' "broad strategic agreement." Under the agreement, the manufacturer receives so-called "platform support payments" from Microsoft -- which, in turn, receives software licensing payments from Nokia. The $250 million Microsoft doled out last quarter is the first of these transactions. All told, Nokia expects the payments both to and from Microsoft to total "in the billions of US Dollars."

Nokia plans board of directors refresh, chairman to step down

Following on from today's mixed bag of Nokia financials, the Espoo-based company will see some changes on its directorial board, after its Annual General Meeting in a few months. As forecast last year, non-executive chairman Jorma Ollola joined Nokia in 1985 and has been on the board through Nokia's explosive growth into the world's biggest handset manufacturer -- and its more recent troubles. He will leave the board alongside more recent members Bengt Holmström and Per Karlsson, while existing board memeber Risto Siilasmaa is currently pegged to take the helm once the new board of directors is formed. New candidates earmarked for the board include Bruce Brown, of Procter and Gamble, Mårten Mickos, CEO of Eucalyptus Systems and independent corporate advisor Elizabeth Nelson. Nokia releases Q4 2011 earnings report: operating profits drop, Lumia sales break one million

Nokia released its latest quarterly earnings report today, following up on a somewhat disappointing Q3 with a similarly bleak Q4. The Finnish manufacturer finished 2011 with a little more than €10 billion in net sales -- 11 percent higher than Q3, but 21 percent lower than 2010, when Nokia raked in about €12.7 billion. Operating profit, meanwhile, rose by 90 percent over Q3, but is still down on the year by a whopping 56 percent. To date, the company has sold more than one million Lumia handsets, but Espoo acknowledges that there's still a lot of work to do in 2012. In fact, Nokia expects to break even during the first quarter of this year, due in part to lower than expected seasonal sales and to what it calls "competitive industry dynamics." Microsoft patents method for secure pairing of devices wirelessly and a 3D rangefinder camera

IBM may be the king of patents, and Apple's patent applications grace these pages rather frequently, but Microsoft's not one to rest on its IP laurels, either. A couple of newly published patents out of Redmond have made their way to the web: one for securely pairing wireless devices and one for 3D rangefinder camera technology. The pairing tech works via a direct connection between devices using Bluetooth or WiFi and an automated, two-step authentication process. First, a request is sent by an initiating handset and is authenticated by its target using an address book of recognized devices. Next, the two devices exchange encrypted security keys to cement their digital friendship, leaving you free to exchange your favorite episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 or latest LOLcat pictures with the greatest of ease.

Microsoft's other patent of interest is for "a 3D camera for determining distances to regions in a scene." That's not a new concept by any means, but this new bit of IP integrates all the functions of such an imager on a single chip. Essentially, it claims an image sensor, a light source to illuminate the scene being shot and a controller to gate the pixels on the sensor on and off and correct for inaccuracies caused by other light sources. It works by projecting the light source and determining the distance to various points based upon the time it takes for the light to bounce off the target and reach the camera sensor. New York planetarium to host 200-player space game tonight (video)

Got plans for this evening? Cancel them now, and do everything you can to sneak into New York's Museum of Natural History. Because tonight, the museum's planetarium will play host to a 200-person space game, courtesy of Brooklyn's Babycastles arcade. It's all part of the museum's "Cosmic Cocktails and Space Arcade" evening -- an event that seems tailor made for anyone interested in cosmology, humans, and/or hallucinogens. The showcase of the soiree is the Space Cruiser game, which promises to turn the ceiling of the Rose Center for Earth and Space into a "living, breathing, space ship where participants navigate around a beautiful fictitious universe." With the Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt assuming the tripartite role of ship captain-navigator-narrator, the game apparently begins with the birth of the universe, before transporting visitors across new galaxies and through time-bending wormholes. The ship launches at 6:30 PM tonight, but unfortunately, tickets are already sold out. Head past the break, though, for a rather "duuuude"-inducing video.

Strategy Analytics: Apple still owns tablet market, but Android narrows the gap

Strategy Analytics has come out with another report on the state of today's tablet market, which, not surprisingly, remains dominated by Apple. Cupertino's iOS comprised about 58 percent of the global slate market during Q4 2011 -- well ahead of Android's record high 39 percent share, but down from the 68 percent it commanded during the final quarter of 2010. Android, in fact, has seen quite a jump over the past year, with total shipments reaching 10.5 million units during the last quarter, up from just 3.1 million last year (Apple, by comparison, shipped 15.4 million iPads during Q4, versus the 7.3 million it shipped last year). On a global level, the tablet market continues to blossom, with total shipments reaching an all-time high of 26.8 million units last quarter, representing a whopping 150 percent increase over last year. Sure, there's no practical household application for the PP16, even in the most gadget-obsessed of families, but it'd be more than welcome in an enterprise environment or even an airport (especially an airport). Nintendo releases quarterly earnings report: 61 percent drop in profit, grim forecast

Nintendo released its latest quarterly earnings report this morning and, as with last quarter's report, there's not a whole lot to celebrate. The company posted profits of ¥40.9 billion (about $631.6 million) for the October - December period, representing a 61 percent quarterly drop. That's especially disappointing, considering that this period has traditionally been strong for Nintendo, which had previously forecast an operating profit of ¥1 billion (around $12.9 million). Those forecasts have since changed, however, with the manufacturer now predicting a ¥45 billion ($580 million) operating loss for the full year, ending March 31st. Morgan accepts orders for a new sport car Eva GT

Morgan – the oldest English independent motor-car manufacturer, has started to accept an advance payment ($7 315) for the newest sport car – four-seater sport coupe Eva GT. The car, will appear on sale only in second half of 2012, but, considering its scanty circulation in 100 cars, to hasten with the order costs already now.

Unlike other models Morgan, some of which were issued before Second World War and by means of numerous modernisations could live up to now, sport coupe Eva GT is entirely developed by special computer programs. In particular, developers have given special attention to aerodynamics and passive safety. At the heart of the car slightly extended platform of model Aero Supersports that is caused by occurrence additional two passenger places. Under a cowl three litre "six" BMW capacity of 306 h.p. (400 Nm) will settle down. Engineers Morgan have decided to refuse Bavarian 4,4-litre "eight" so favourite by them as at loss in capacity hardly less than 20 h.p. managed to be won considerably in weight and profitability.

Dispersal to first hundred occupies 4,5 sec, and the maximum speed makes 273 km/h. Thus fuel consumption in the commixed cycle, according to Englishmen, will not exceed seven litres on hundred kilometres of run. And thanks to a spatial frame from aluminium and to aluminium body panels according to which the car will weigh only 1250 kg.

The official debut of the car will take place on August, 15th at exhibition Pebble-Beach Concourse d'Elegance that will pass the Pebbl-scourge in the Californian small town. Final price of the car will be named there.

The move is deemed similar to that of former McLaren boss Ron Dennis’ signing of Lewis Hamilton at the age of 13 who won GP2 Series in 2006 and become McLaren driver. He won his first race in the 2007 season at the Canadian Grand Prix before going on to become the youngest world champion in 2008 aged just 23. Thought Lance is young and talented, yet it remains to be seen if he could achieve the same with Ferrari Badge what Lewis did with McLaren.

The concept features vast transparent door surfaces along with one motion windscreen integrated in glass roof that gives the excellent scenic view to the occupants. Terrestrial Shrub Rover is a harmless shrub on the wheels

Ingenuity knows no bounds and here is an instance that shows humans have a never die urge to explore. See this object and you will surely take it for a moving shrub but it’s a solar electric powered car, mind you. As per its looks, the vehicle is named as the Terrestrial Shrub Rover and is disguised as a well-manicured shrub. Designed and built by Jason Shull, the Shrub Rover is powered by plug-in solar electricity and is underpinned by a compact go-kart frame with a fiberglass dome and glued on faux foliage. And to give the driver view of the outside road, the amazing vehicle features three outward facing LCD cameras (or about 300 of these mini-cams) to assist and give the occupant a lot more fun than a normal car. Hailed as 2010 MotoCzysz E1pc, the bike is not merely another technically impressive electric motorcycle, but the most advanced two-wheeler ever made. E1pc Superbike has a 100hp electric motor with a torque density of 250+ lb ft. The MotoCzysz motor can deliver a continuous 75kW (100hp) and is 93% efficient under continuous heavy load (140C).

Body work powered cars are the future of electric, hybrid cars

As Swedish carmaker Volvo to team up with Imperial College London on a 3.4 million euro project, possibilities for the concerns over the impracticality of electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles may soon come to an end. The duo to work together to develop a prototype material that stores and discharges electrical energy, allowing parts of a car’s bodywork to double up as its battery. The project will help quash the very thought of being stranded at a location with dead battery and no recharge station for miles which is a major affliction people eschew buying an EV or HEV.

The project will work on an idea to store energy in different parts of the electric or hybrid car and then use this energy to power anything from the brake lights to the satnav. The technology will feature small and fewer batteries being used that could power the vehicle for a longer period of time without the need to recharge. Well, if this thing comes out to be true, it will not only be a new paradigm in energy conservation but will reduce the charging stations considerably.

The other possible +ve outcomes of this energy storage technology include: it would lead to lighter vehicles on the road, which obviously translates to less road wear-and-tear per car in the future. With all the research work going on, it doesn’t seem improbable to think of a car drawing power from its roof, bonnet etc or mobile phone as thin as credit card or laptop that can draw energy from its casing.

A functional electric sports car created out of 10,280 cigarette packets

To mark the ‘No Tobacco Day’ on 31 May and to show the concerns about the cause of environmental health and love of cars, a team of five undergraduate students in Xi’an, China made an anti-smoking sports car from discarded cigarette cases. The all electric car is of the same size as a real car and weighs 300kgs. And on the top of that it actually runs. Made while meticulously putting 10,280 discarded cigarette packets one after the other, it took eight months to give this vehicle present shape. The team was helped by more than 2500 students to collect the discarded cigarette packets. The eco friendly car appeared in the Xi’an Electrical and Information Institute and attracted thousands of students.

Built by Rick Cavallaro and his friend, this wind-powered vehicle outruns the wind. In a test carried out last week, the car hit a top speed 2.86 times faster than the wind. Wind powered car with a 17-foot-tall propeller is basically an unusual contraption with an aerodynamic foam chassis attached to a wind turbine. Using wind as an external power source, the car’s propeller produces enough thrust to push the car’s wheels beyond the speed of the wind. The team took almost a year in designing a transmission system that could transfer power from the wheels to the propeller. And to ensure there is no paucity of funds in the mission, Google and Joby Energy provided the necessary funding to build the vehicle with San Jose State University aerodynamics department.

After the initial teaser, Jeff Koon’s BMW Art Car is finally unveiled this week at the Centre Popidou in Paris. For the making of this 17th BMW Art Car since the program’s creation in 1977, Koon studied explosions, race cars, and speed in building his inspiration for the car. The car was placed in the Center Pompidou – the same place where Roy Lichtenstein back in 1977 first presented and signed his Art Car and as per BMW it is to race where the first rolling pieces of art by legendary artists raced – at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 12-13, 2010.

Koon’s BMW M3 GT2 art car with his long, wind-swept, brightly colored brush strokes are meant to appeal to our most basic notions of “power, motion and bursting energy”. Its silver interior along with the powerful exterior design, and dynamic appearance will surely force people to think. The exterior design was printed on vinyl that was further wrapped around the car. On the other, two layers of clear-coat were applied to the wrap, which can also be seen on the car’s spare parts.

BMW art car was produced under Koons’ direct guidance and supervision and in assistance with the BMW engineers and designers at Schmid Design, Bavaria. The car has been made using light material without interfering with the race car’s aerodynamics and weight. CAD designs were translated from 3D into 2D for printing hundreds of lines of Koons’ design onto the car. The car is open for the public view free of charge in the Forum of the Center Pompidou.

Well, Coca-Cola and Mentos breath mints when mixed together, Coke will bubble and shoot up in the air is nothing new to all of us. However, the Main guys claim that they’ve harnessed that power to run the Rocket car. The vehicle is created by Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz of Buckfield features a utility trailer at the rear and a modified bike at the front. And the power from the chemical reaction has been harnessed, and very well harnessed, to roll the Rocket Car out of a hangar to a distance mark of 221 feet.

The Rocket car has 108 two-liter bottles of Coke Zero and 648 Mentos tablets and uses a piston mechanism wherein a six foot long rod sits inside a six-foot long tube attached to each bottle of Coke Zero. When the mentos tablets drop into the soda, the pressure press the road to come out of the tube and while 108 rods pushing at the same time generates a lot of power. The power further push against the a wall braced with 3,600 pounds of cement blocks and in this way the force is directed to roll the three wheeled Coke Zero & Mentos Rocket Car forward.

Industrial designer, Robin Long, with the intention to provide a vehicle that meets the future needs and is comfortable, clean and green at the same time, developed the EV 2020 that can provide the commuters and easy travel through congested cities, narrow paths and suburbs. In order to make this vehicle more user-friendly and to make the travel more relaxing, the vehicle has been made autonomous and is regulated by a bevy of sensors that deliver information into the vehicle’s intelligent processor to help vehicle travel unaided by the user. The aesthetics of this two seater vehicle came from the simple and the bold surfaces to create a design that adds to personality and character.

The vehicle’s sill lowers itself by a set amount to ease entrance. The sill rises and lowers its front sill by utilizing pneumatic pressure. The vehicle is equipped with the NAV-i Driver system that makes uses of onboard sensors about the vehicle and GPS to drive the vehicle without any input from the driver other than telling it about the destination. The vehicle is designed for the ease and unlike the other electric vehicles; EV 2020 has battery cells that are designed to be replaced than recharged when power runs out. Batteries can be replaced at any station meant for the purpose.

James Bond's Original '007' Aston Martin DB5 to go under the hammer

A 1964 Silver Aston Martin that was once driven by Sean Connery in the James Bond movies and is dubbed the most famous car buy RM auctions is to go under the hammer in London on 27 Oct. This car was one of the two original Aston Martin that featured on screen with Sean Connery behind the wheel in ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Thunderball’ is expected to fetch as much as $ 10 million.

This silver car is complete with ‘Q Branch’ gadgets that include machine guns, bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates, smoke screen, electronic tracking and oil slick. All the gadgets of the car are fully functioning, although the machine guns do not fire for safety reasons.

To tell you more is this car is owned by a Philadelphia radio DJ Jerry Lee, who convinced the Aston Martin Lagonda factory to sell it for $12,000 forty years ago and Lee plans to use the funds for the development of ‘The Jerry Lee Foundation’ – a philanthropy organization devoted to reducing crime.

Bond’s car has a FMP 7B number plate, is still capable of 145mph and 0-60mph sprint is achieved in 7.1 seconds. And no need to worry about if you can drive it on the road or not, it is street legal.

When Icarus first flew with the waxwings, none had have imagined that in future planes will cruise at six times the speed of sound. But with the advancing technology, anything and everything seems possible. Yes, this is the latest feat in the history that Scramjet, an experimental aircraft, gave incredible view when flew over California at a speed which is six times more than that of sound’s. The experimental aircraft set a record for hypersonic flight through the air for more than three minutes at Mach 6, or more than 4,500 mph. The X-51A Waverider Scramjet was released from a B-52 bomber last week and it works while using oxygen rushing in through the engine at supersonic speeds to ignite hydrogen fuel. The air-breathing Scramjet engine is built by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and engine accelerated the vehicle to Mach 6, and it flew autonomously for 200 seconds – breaking previous record of 12 seconds – before losing acceleration. At that point the test was terminated. The whole thing left me thinking about passenger planes flying at Mach 6 will cut the flight time from London to Sydney to little more than two hours.

Tecnalia’s all electric Dynacar does 0-140km/h in 10 seconds

EVs are what every Automaker is trying to master upon and striving their level best to come first with something that other’s haven’t achieved yet. As a result, we come across some improvements every now and then. The latest addition is Tecnalia Technological Corporation’s experimental electric car that boasts to reach a speed of 140km/h in 10 seconds. Hailed as the Dynacar, the vehicle was presented at the International Eco Friendly Vehicle & Sustainable Mobility Show in Madrid, Spain (20 -23rd May, 2010).

Dynacar car, which is totally an electric car, takes on board the possibility of integrating range extension concepts – a battery or small internal combustion engine that will enable the car battery to be supplied with energy in a supplementary mode. The car is a two seater and uses a single-shell, high-rigidity lightweight chassis of steel and aluminum alloy, with an adjustable deformable parallelogram suspension system for the four wheels.

Power to the Dynacar is provided by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that has a peak output of 100KW. All electric vehicle’s total weight is 700 kg with an energy storage capacity of 15kWh. Sprint from 0-100 is achieved in less than 5.7 seconds and has its top speed limited at 140kwh that vehicle achieve in approximately 10 seconds.

With its operating range at about 70km, Dynacar is not only a firm step in electrifying the roads but will also end the woes of speed enthusiasts for electric cars being too slow.

Transformers are nothing new to anyone of us but there are few who know that Transformers actually started out as a toy line. Well, there are two new toy lines of transformers at the moment: Alternity Skywarp and Alternity Starscream. If you’ve seen those movies, Skywarp character transforms from the oddball Mitsuoka Orochi into an evil robot. To remind you all, Mitsuoka Orochi is powered by 3.3-liter, 230hp Toyota Camry V-6 with the power-to-weight ratio somewhere between that of the Honda Civic and a Mini Cooper S and has been deemed the ugliest car ever built. Alternity Skywarp is built by Takara Tomy, the Japanese owner of the popular Transformers line of toys and cartoons. The two toy transformers come in two paint jobs: purple pearl and white pearl wherein purple is for the Skywarp and white is for Starscream. The real version of the Mitsuoka Orochi cost approximately $95,000 but if you still want the distinction to own one but could not shell out that big amount all at once, you could opt for the smaller (toy) version that transforms into a robot in just $60.

The brainchild of Josep Ferriol, the Volkswagen Kai-Nalu concept car has been created as a part of his final year thesis. The futuristic sports car concept with unique design is composed of two distinctly different elements: the waves of the Mediterranean Sea and shoreline rocks. The concept car features flowing glass upper section which is inspired by the waves of the Mediterranean Sea and is designed to mimic the sea; whereas the angular, jagged bodywork underneath represents the rocks of the coastline.

The mixture of two different shapes and textures represents the dynamic and forceful appearance, similar to the waves. The other unique features of the concept include highly stylized wheels which were inspired by the appearance of bicycle wheels; VW logo in the center is balanced and mounted on a bearing and clear roof. Also, there are windows and upper bodywork that provides a glimpse of the vehicle’s electric drive-train, featuring two separate motors – one mounted upfront and the other at the rear to help balance out weight distribution.

After four years of designing and development, New Zealand’s Hulme has finally launched its Supercar named the “CanAm” after 1967 F1 champion Denny Hulme. Produced in a limited edition of just 20 cars, the mid-engined roadster is intended to run on both road and track. Presenting the rear wheel drive through a Quaife six-speed manual gearbox, the CanAm takes the braking system and safety aids from A.P. racing and Bosch respectively. Generating power from a LS7 V-8 engine, producing 600 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, the Supercar is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in less than three seconds and can reach the top speed of above 200mph. Here are new renderings for the Porsche 918 RSR concept from a TeamSpeed forum user, PorscheCarreraGTMay6. And as per him, if Porsche will enter 918 RSR into production, there will most likely be a GT1 version of it. This user chooses the Porsche 918 RSR because the model No. 918 is the reminiscent of 917 and added an RSR designation to the model that refers to a race version. The 918 RSR model will race the same competitions as the classical 917 race car.

The model will drop the pair of electric motors but will keep the 500hp V8. However, as per the GT1 regulations that allow no more than 600hp, Porsche may avoid using the air-restrictors from the engine to boost the output to 600hp. The vehicle will be having a top speed of 200mph and will touch 0 to 62mph in less than 3 seconds. It will weigh around 1,240 kilos, courtesy to stripped interior, more extensive use of carbon fiber, loss of the batteries and loss of amenities and reconstruction of body-work.

The club to claim a new entry in the Guinness World Record, as it’s shattered its own record from last month when Mira EV drove 555.6km from Tokyo to Osaka on a single charge. The all electric Mira EV was powered by a Sanyo lithium-ion battery that was designed by assembling 8,320 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries. Batteries provided enough juice to the car to run for 27 and a half hour at around 40km/h on average.

Bullet 580 – World’s largest inflatable craft lifts off

With the world’s largest inflatable craft being launched inside the Garret Coliseum in Alabama, US, the giant blimps will take to the skies yet again. Christened as Bullet 580, the pioneering aircraft measures 235ft long, 65ft in diameter and is capable to lift 2,000lbs up to 20,000ft in the air. Developed by E-Green Technologies, the aircraft will run on algae fuel, can be remote controlled and flew with the crew as well. Lift to this £5.5million craft is provided by a system of seven bags filled with helium, while the inner hull is full of ambient air. The airship carries the payloads inside the outer envelope of the balloon which is made from a type of Kevlar and is only one sixteenth of an inch thick but 10 times stronger than steel. With its top speed at 80mph, the airship can take off and land vertically. Also, the giant blimp has a magnificent capacity to hover over an area for a week at a time – something neither airplanes nor satellites can manage. The vehicle can effectively be used for the sightseeing and reconnaissance.

Mitsubishi Electric Installs Five 80-person Capacity Elevators, possibly the world's largest

But this is something that have been solved in Umeda Hankyu Building’s new office area in Osaka, Japan, with the installations of the five Mitsubishi Electric’s elevators that are possibly the largest measuring 3.4m wide, 2.8m long and 2.6m high. Each elevator has a whopping capacity for 80 people at a time with more than 11,500 pounds weight carrying power. Well, if you’ve sound mathematics, you can calculate that these five elevators together can lift up to 400 people at once. DMC introduces 'Quattro Veloce' styling kit for 2010 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

German tuner from Dusseldorf, DMC, has come up with a new tuning kit for the current Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 series. The kit is called Quattro Veloce and it is inspired by the SV version. It is mostly carbon fiber kit that includes a new front fascia, with redesigned hood and intakes, a new splitter, new side wings, fuel-filler cap, a new rear spoiler and rear diffuser, all in pure carbon fiber. Apart from this, engines performance has been boosted up to 6% to produce 661hp and up to 660 Nm of torque. With all these upgrades, the Quattro Veloce can achieve 0-60mph sprint in 3.2 seconds with its top speed at 213 mph, which is about 8 mph faster than the stock LP 640. Its interior features genuine ostrich leather for head rests while the rest of the driver’s cabin has been made using cattle leather and receives Carbon fiber treatment as well. The installation will cost €59,900 excluding shipping cost and the body kit is limited to only forty pieces worldwide.

Surprised? You might be! It seems police officers want to get back to those old days when they use to cruise past the criminal as this six feet long vehicle, even when pedaled furiously, couldn’t catch anyone other than those with a zimmer frame.

Well, jeering aside and before you start jumping to any conclusion, let me tell you that this vehicle is the part of a community project organized by local bobby Keith Waller and won’t be used for patrolling. The vehicle is intended for the British Pedal Car Grand Prix on July 11 and will be piloted by PC Keith Waller.

This pedal powered replica car comes out after 40 hours rigorous work at a cost over £1,000. With its top speed at 20mph, the vehicle is equipped with functioning three-tone siren, blue flashing light and also features British police logo, phone number and fluorescent batten-burg panels.

Apart from its rare chances to break the speed limits, this pedal powered car would make an eco-friendly alternative to other vehicles – which is the need of the hour.

Thanks to a pair of twin direct drive electric propulsion pods which are fueled by onboard batteries. Bugatti will receive 1200 h.p.

Apparently, engineers of company Bugatti have started creation of the new version of the super car Veyron. And, the new model will possess the engine capacity not 1001 h.p., as now, but 1200 h.p. Harvesting solar power to use it as an alternative source of energy isn’t something that we all don’t know about. However, there are few who actually do that and take the responsibility to solve the energy problems than leaving it to the generations to come. One such man is Patrick Vanderwyden, 49, from US who uses solar power to run his heater, hot tub, air conditioner, fans, and his refrigerator at his home.

Most of Vanderwyden’s means of transportation has the same story to tell. The conservationist can often be spotted driving something with pedals or with electric motors either. His collection includes recycled bikes, an electric cycle and last but not the least is a strange looking bike created from spare parts he named as Frankenbike.

Frankenbike gets power from a treadmill motor connected to roof-mounted solar panels and is street legal as it easily exceeds the top legal speed of 18mph allowed for the electric bikes. Well, Vanderwyden’s efforts are ideal in a time when the energy demands are increasing and sources of energy, other than solar, are drying up. And lot more remains to be done by every individual before the dire necessity knocks.

The Iranian mechanical engineer, Siyamak Rouhi Dehkordi who had already impressed us with his Ferrari Zobin Concept earlier has now come up with Hexawheel concept. Dubbed the Mercedes-Benz Hexawheel Concept, this vehicle is an extreme three seater off roader designed for the people who love adventure and often go on exploring extremely difficult terrains. The design of the hexawheel is inspired by the jointed structure of insects, and the vehicle is capable to ward off every obstacle with its flexible frame, united with a six-wheel layout and an all-wheel-drive system.

The structuring of the three-seat SUV has two degrees of motion and works with a hydraulic system with a diesel engine and a flexible system of hydraulic power transmission. Power to the six wheels is conduit via a hybrid drivetrain and the rear part stee can separate from the front moving. Hexawheel’s dimensions include a total length of 4.8 meters, two equal wheelbases of 0.95 meters, a ground clear of 46cm and its weight equally distributed among three axles. On the other, its exterior design has industrial look and angular shapes, interpreted for the Mercedes-Benz brand.

Some of the features in the Chevrolet Volt include a new navigation tab added to the home screen of the existing Chevrolet Volt mobile app on the Android smartphone. If pressed, this button will show current location of the vehicle pinpointed on the Google Maps as well as their location relative to it.

The owners can use Google search from the map screen by voice to vocally search for the destination from the android handset to find out where that destination is related to the Volt’s current location. And while using the Google Maps Navigation, the owner can opt for the voice guided directions to their vehicle from their current location.

Additionally, the owner can elect to send the destination from their android phone to the vehicle and have OnStar turn-by turn directions to their destination thereafter. Apart from this, the app will display the status of charging, miles per gallon (electric only miles, and odometer), percentage of the battery charge level, electric and total ranges, allow scheduling the charging time, will send email or text messages for charge reminders and driver can remotely start the vehicle to pre-condition the interior temperature.

For that purpose, Design Q has outfitted Range Rover with luxurious comfort and style equivalent to that of an aircraft.
