Kia has introduced its plug-in hybrid Ray concept car at Chicago Auto Show. Inspired by and meant for modern, eco-minded and environmentally conscious consumers, Kia has intended to communicate its fuel-saving and emissions-cutting technologies. As a result, this new PHEV has a unique aerodynamic design and innovative green technology.

Powered with an all-aluminum 153-hp Gasoline Direct Injection 1.4L engine which is mated to a permanently-engaged fixed ratio CVT transmission, the setup is used in collaboration with a 78 kW electric motor that gets power from lithium-ion batteries.

Batteries power Ray to run 50 miles after a full charge and the vehicle has the maximum fuel economy of 202 mpg, which gives it a total range of 746 miles. Further, the fuel economy is of, as per Kia, 202.3 mpg when driving in electric only mode and 77.6 mpg when running in hybrid mode.

And in order to reduce the weight and increase its fuel efficiency, Ray’s overall exterior is made of recycled materials. It also flaunts hexagonal roof-top solar cells embedded in the glass roof panel that power extra lightening and a movable rear spoiler.
