A Monster Beetle That Eats Hummers For Breakfast

A monster beetle is what you get when an aircraft engineer has a 1968 VW Beetle lying around and too much time on his or her hands. The modification which you can see was allegedly planned out in CAD for structural integrity and all that other stuff. With a new engine 2.8 Liter engine, it should have a pretty good power to weight ratio to boot. While it will not literally eat a Hummer for breakfast, it does look a whole lot cooler and is bound to have a more reasonable environmental footprint.

Ok, so I don’t know the story behind this photo, but it looks to me like someone played a little too much Burnout:Paradise, and took to the road. How they managed to wedge themselves into a drainage culvert is anyone’s guess, but all I can say is: Bullseye!

The GPS doesn’t care about bridges !

A 9-foot bridge was the last stop for a bus carrying the Garfield High School girls softball team.

Even if the GPS system had settings for car, motorcycle, bus or truck,it chose a route through the Washington Park Arboretum where the 12-foot-high vehicle crashed after going under a 9-foot bridge.The bus driver said he didn’t see the flashing lights warning about the bridge height.

The softball team girls and the coach had minor injuries and,of course,the brigde had just a few scratches.

Crazy crash

A car, an Audi, was cut in two as the result of a horiffic traffic accident on Friday evening.

The accident happened on the road between Goesdorf and Dahl, shortly after 17:00, when its driver lost control and collided with a roadside tree. The impact broke the car in two.

Amazingly, the driver survived the crash and was found in the wreckage when the emergency services arrived on the scene. It is understood that he walked away from the accident with the aid of ambulance staff. He was later brought to hospital in Wiltz.

The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident.
 

Crazy thing about this is that the driver walked out of the car almost with no injuries and phoned the emergency services himself

World's Largest Robotic Truck

The world's largest robotic vehicle! When I hear "world's largest", I think maybe you will need to know it! Computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University have teamed up with engineers from Caterpillar, adapting software CMU used in the DARPA Urban Challenge, to automate the 700-ton trucks, which are made to haul loads up to 240 tons from mines. 

That's nearly two million pounds of metal, fuel and stone powered by a 3,550-horsepower, 24-valve engine moving at up to 42 miles per hour, with software and a robot at the wheel. The Caterpillar trucks will be equipped with numerous high-tech gadgets and GPS receivers to keep them on the road. Laser range finders would sweep the road in front of the trucks to identify large objects. Video equipment would then determine if the object is a hazard, such as a rock, or not. All of the information would then be run through a computer program that would tell the robotic driver to avoid the obstacle or not and by how much...[ link ]

Oh No! Train Wreck Ruins New Porsche 911s

What a terrible way to start a day. Early on Wednesday morning, two packed freight trains collided outside of Dillenberg, Germany. The precious cargo? About twenty Porsche 911s along with a bunch of other luxury vehicles.

While most of the Porsches didn't fare too well in the crash (as these pictures would suggest), some cars were still able to be salvaged. Thankfully, the crash was not a total catastrophe, especially since one of the trains was pulling tankers of flammable liquids.
