Chevrolet Malibu sales were up 51.5 percent in 2008


The Chevrolet Malibu is General Motors’ favorite child. While industrywide sales were down 18 percent in 2008, Chevy Malibu sales were up a whopping 51.5 percent from the year before.

The Chevrolet Malibu is General Motors’ favorite child. While industrywide sales were down 18 percent in 2008, Chevy Malibu sales were up a whopping 51.5 percent from the year before.


J.D. Power and Associates gave the General high marks for its Malibu launch, making it the No.3 most significant launch in 2007. The No.1 went to the Buick Enclave, but sales volume of the Lambda SUV aren’t as high as the Malibu.



GM says that the Chevrolet Malibu didn’t hit its full stride until January 2008 which helped it sell a total of 177,088 units of the mid-sized sedan in all of 2008. GM’s overall U.S. sales fell 22.7 percent in 2008.
