While it may take a long for racing world to take electric cars seriously, but the first step has been taken in this direction by Westfield. And pictured here is Westfield iRacer which has been designed to form the basis for the electric race car series.

Designed by Elliott Hawkins, iRacer represents 99% of the production model. For its body construction, a number of materials have been used that include aluminum and recyclable plastics. With these materials, the vehicle weighs only 600kg which is very light in comparison to the alternative materials.

With the pulse of electric power running through its veins, iRacer feature 440 pounds of lithium iron phosphate batteries, two electric YASA motors – one for each rear wheel – with the combined output of 160bhp while each motor produces 369lb ft of torque as well.

iRacer is 3.6 meters long, 1.6 meter wide and a rear-wheel-driven with a sprint of 0-60mph in less than 5 seconds. Its top speed is at 110mph (electronically limited) and battery pack is enough to run it for 55 miles on a single charge. Its batteries can be fully charged in 2 hours using a phase three generator.
