Unlike many Eco-friendly cars that run on lithium ion batteries, this car runs on the coffee granules. Dubbed as Car-puccino, the invention may not please many in the auto industry as making this car function needs 25-50 times more a cost to run a car on petrol.

Designed by the BBC1 science program ‘Bang Goes The Theory’, this converted 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco is supposed to travel 210 miles between Manchester and London and will be powered by a roasted coffee granules.

The car will be on display at Big Bang science fair in Manchester and is especially designed to show how the fuels other than the convention ones can be used to power vehicles. This car will be capable to run, as per the team, three miles per kilo of ground coffee which is equivalent to 56 espressos per mile.

A journey from Manchester to London will need approximately 70 kilos of ground coffee with the price ranging from £13 and £26 a kilo, will cost between £910 and £1,820 which is, again, between 25 and 50 times the £36 cost of petrol for the journey.

Car-puccino will be having a top speed of 60mph however, the journey will be marked with the ‘coffee breaks’ after every 60 miles to clean the ‘coffee filters to rid them of the soot and tar which is generated in the process.
